Examination of yesilyurt (Malatya) urban residential area and its surrounding survey in terms of urban desing principles

The elements that make up the historical urban fabric are the most important building blocks in the formation of urban identity and cultural memory. The cultural heritage areas, which are transferred from the past to the present day, consisting of archaeological, cultural, social, economic and aesthetic values, establish a connection between the past and the future, and enhance the sense of urbanity and ownership. Preserving the cultural heritage strengthens the common ties that keep the people living in that city together. Since the historical part of the city is a resource that can be consumed, but cannot be replaced with another "thing", a restrictive attitude should be taken and a protective approach should be used in its use. Since historical and cultural values are a part of the city and the region as well as being a common heritage of the country and the world, preserving these values and addressing them from the perspective of cultural continuity is of great importance for both the country and the city. The concept of conservation emerges as a result of a cultural process and conservation is not a cultural one-dimensional approach, but also includes economic and social processes that ensure the continuity of urban life. The most important tool for the preservation of the historical city textures are zoning plans for protection. Conservation development plans should be considered as design works that involve social-spatial and economic strategies that necessitate urban design studies in detail within the scope of priority planning areas. Urban design connects planning with architecture and plays an important role in creating livable urban areas. Urban design is a process of spatial organization that ensures the sustainability of historical urban textures. In order to achieve this organization successfully, management of the process with urban design / urban landscape design guides covering all kinds of elements and details, from floor coverings to urban furniture, building facades to door handles, from urban art elements to plant species, forms and colors, is required. In this study, the components constituting the historical urban fabric of Yeşilyurt, which is one of the settlements with historical and cultural heritage in our country, are examined and the examples of traditional architecture are documented and suggestions for preservation and preservation and transfer to future generations are presented. In the research, documentary analysis method was used. In this context; the zoning plan dated 1958, zoning plan dated 1985, the urban conservation area determined in 2005 and the conservation development plan dated 2007 were examined and the land uses and building conditions in the urban conservation area were evaluated. In addition, the traditional architectural features in the Urban Protected Area and the Influence Transition Area, which constitute the historical urban fabric of Yeşilyurt, have been determined by observing both archival photographs and on-site observations and examining them through current photographs.
