Elements of culture in Şermin Yaşar's works from the perspective of adults

Culture is a concept of vital importance for every society. Preserving, promoting, and passing on this important concept to future generations is essential for ensuring the continuity of society. In this study, adults, who are the transmitters of the concept of culture, are the subjects. Adults' perspectives on the concept of culture and their perceptions of cultural elements were examined through Şermin Yaşar's works titled "Göçüp Gidenler Koleksiyoncusu, Kalk Yerine Yat, Deli Tarla, Tarihi Hoşça Kal Lokantası ve Gelirken Ekmek Al." The aim of the study is to identify cultural elements in Şermin Yaşar's works from the perspective of adults. A qualitative research method was preferred in the study. The study group consisted of 15 participants aged between 18 and 50. Five storybooks, which were the main material, were read by the participants. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed in depth. Furthermore, document analysis was used to support the analysis of the data. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand the participants' perspectives on culture, their levels of perception regarding the cultural elements in the works, and whether or not cultural awareness was formed in the participants. The findings were evaluated under five sub-themes: "participants' views on the works, views on the concept of culture and its preservation, views on the presence of cultural elements in the works, views on the role of the works in preserving and transmitting culture, and views on whether the study created cultural awareness among participants." It was observed that participants approached the concept of culture consciously and recognized cultural elements in the works. The study revealed that cultural awareness was created and highlighted the value of addressing the younger generation in terms of art and culture. Recommendations were made that incorporating cultural elements into the flow of the works and using them more frequently and positively would contribute to cultural transmission.
