The influence of in-service training applied on food and beverage department employees: A practice in five star hotel enterprises in Afyonkarahisar

Abstract (EN)

Hotel enterprises are labour-intensive and where service production and consumption is simultaneous. Because of this characteristics, the interaction between the customers and employees is the most important factor in formation of customer satisfaction in the sector. Qualified human resources have come forward to maintain success in the service sector where the human being is the main subject. In-service training is a practice which provides career opportunities by improving employees? vocational knowledge and skills, and improves employees? attitudes towards their jobs, increase their motivation and level of job satisfaction. In this study, the effects of in-service training, applied on food and beverage department employees at hotel enterprises, on employees? job satisfaction have been examined. In this respect;?Employees? perception level on in-service training types.?Inner-outer and overall job satisfaction levels of employees.?The relationship between orientation, rotation, vocational development training and in-service training practices which are the types of in-service training and inner-outer and overall job satisfaction have been examined.The employees of food-beverage departments in four different five star hotels located in the Omer-Gecek region were chosen as research population of the study. The numbers of employees in these enterprises were 45 in hotel A, 34 in hotel B, 36 in hotel C and 12 in hotel D, total of 127. The questionnaires were distributed to the all research population under the supervision of the researcher and necessary explanations were made. The data were collected through mass questionnaire application while all participants from a related hotel were present. All questionnaires were included in the assessment stage since all contained reliable data. The data obtained through questionnaires was analysed by using SPSS 15.0 package programs and multiple regression analysis, correlation analysis, T-test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, ANOVA were used.In this research, the perception level of five star hotel employees in Afyonkarahisar Omer-Gecek region in relation to the in-service training practices and the contribution of in-service training on inner-outer and overall job satisfaction have been revealed. When the results were examined, the following conclusions have been reached;?Employees are highly satisfied from the in-service training types and practices applied in their hotels.?Except their educational level factor, there is no meaningful difference between the remaining factors in perception levels of in-service training programs applied on employees according to their individual specifications and the hotels they work for.?In-service training in hotels provides high level contribution to employees? job satisfaction.
