Abstract (EN)

On highways, asphalt parameters are of great importance for the service life of the pavement. In order to provide the expected performance in asphalt pavements, it is expected to have certain conditions such as being economical, reliable, comfortable and resistant to environmental conditions throughout the service life. However, coatings are adversely affected due to many reasons such as the effect of traffic, chemical effects and environmental effects. For these reasons, deformations can be seen in the coatings. At the beginning of these deformations is water damage due to environmental effects. Clays penetrating into asphalt pavements from the environment cause water damage that causes local peeling of the pavement. When clays are present in bitumen and aggregate, they play a role in the formation of peeling and deep deformations due to weakening of the adhesion bond. Therefore, the bitumen-water-clay interaction should be considered in asphalt pavements. In this context, clay was penetrated into Marshall Stability samples in accordance with the technical specifications of the General Directorate of Highways with different additive-unadded conditioning methods, and the strength differences created by the Modified Lottman test were examined. As a result of the experiment, it was observed that the materials with additives showed more strength and the resistance decreased in proportion to the exposure time to clay.
