Reflection of idiom teaching on vocabulary knowledge of fourth grade students in primary school through enriched text and images

Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe the reflections of teaching idioms through enriching texts and visuals on the learning-teaching process and the vocabu-lary of primary school 4th grade students through student-produced pictures and po-ems. Method: In this study, action research, one of the qualitative research designs, was conducted. The study group of the research consists of 4th grade students studying at a state school affiliated to National Education in Ağrı centre in 2021-2022. Re-searcher diaries, student diaries, observations, semi-structured student interviews and video recordings used during the implementation process were used to collect the data. The data obtained were analysed by content analysis method. Results: In this study, in which the reflections of enriching texts and visuals on the vocabulary of 4th grade students were investigated, two main themes were reached as a result of the findings obtained from the data set. The first one is the main theme of the learning process. In the main theme of the learning process, the changes and devel-opments of the enriched texts and visuals used in idiom teaching in students' under-standing of idioms, awareness of idioms, and changes and developments in vocabulary were examined. The second main theme is the reflections of the implementation pro-cess on student products. In the main theme of the reflections of the implementation process on student products; student products, student experiences related to the idi-om. The categories of "learning and experiencing in the process" and "knowing and experiencing beforehand" were formed for the sub-theme of student experiences relat-ed to the idiom. Conclusion and Suggestions: In this study, it was concluded that enriching texts and visuals used in idiom teaching improved students' vocabulary and contribut-ed to their understanding of idioms.
