SUMMARY
This study examines the uṣûlî and farshî qirâʾât variants in Sûrah Yûsuf. It also investigates their effects on meaning and their reflections in classical tafsîr literature and Turkish translations. Qurʾânic qirâʾât contain various differences related to pronunciation. While some of these differences directly affect meaning, others remain limited to the phonetic level. In this context, the qirâʾât variants in Sûrah Yûsuf are classified as meaning-affecting and non-meaning-affecting variants. The study is based on the ten canonical qirâʾât. Uṣûlî variants and farshî variants that do not affect meaning are discussed under separate headings, whereas meaning-affecting farshî variants are examined in detail. In addition, some readings attributed to four non-canonical reciters are also included, provided that they correspond semantically to the canonical qirâʾât. The morphological, syntactic, and semantic aspects of the qirâʾât variants are analyzed in light of primary sources, especially the literature of tawjîh al-qirâʾât and classical tafsîr works. The study employs qualitative research methods, particularly source analysis and comparative analysis. Furthermore, the semantic nuances arising from meaning-affecting farshî variants are comparatively evaluated through selected Turkish translations. The findings show that some qirâʾât variants in Sûrah Yûsuf enrich the meaning. However, this semantic diversity is often not reflected, or only partially reflected, in Turkish translations. In this respect, the study aims to contribute to the field by examining the relationship between qirâʾât, meaning, and translation in the context of Sûrah Yûsuf.
