The research aims to edit and verify the manuscript: "A Treatise on Repentance" by Rukn al-Samarqandi (d. 701 AH). This work is a concise treatise on repentance, rich in benefit and value. The author encapsulated the essence of repentance-related knowledge in this work, making it similar to legal compendiums—brief in size but abundant in insights and benefits. The author avoided expanding excessively on its chapters, refrained from detailed elaborations, and instead provided a concise summary for each chapter, sufficient for the reader without requiring further references. The author began the treatise with a succinct introduction directly related to the topic, emphasizing the importance of repentance for those journeying toward Allah Almighty. He described it as the foundation of spiritual progression and the key to ultimate happiness. The introduction also highlighted the gravity of sins, their impact, and the danger they pose to the hearts of those striving toward Allah, the Most Glorious. Following the introduction, the author tackled a theological issue where the Mu'tazilites differed from the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, namely the validity of repentance from some sins while persisting in others. According to Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, such repentance is valid, contrary to the Mu'tazilite view. The treatise is structured into fifteen chapters, encompassing the most critical discussions related to repentance. Al-Samarqandi excelled in presenting each chapter with concise language that encapsulated the essential aspects of repentance, addressing most of its topics, and fulfilling the intended purpose. The treatise outlines the path of repentance in a sufficiently brief yet comprehensive manner, making it an essential resource for anyone seeking Allah's guidance. May Allah have mercy on al-Samarqandi, grant him abundant rewards, and bless his efforts.
