Factors causing stress in women who have 0-3 months babies and their stres coping styles

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in order to determine the factors causing stres in women who have 0-3 months babies and their stres coping styles in a descriptive way. Universe of the study consisted of women have 0-3 months babies who admits to newborn policlinics in an education and research hospital. The sample consisted of 322 women. Data was collected by a questinonnaire and Ways of Stres Coping Inventory. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square and student?s t test were used to evaluate data. It was found that stressors concerned self-care in women are: sleep problems, (%81.4), breast problems (%94.9), sexual problems (%54.8), stressors concerned baby care: baby?s gastro-intestinal system problems (%94.7), baby?s feeding problems (%93.5). It was found that women had stressors concerned social life (%96) and these problems caused stress during postpartum period. It was found that women used both effective coping styles and uneffected coping styles to cope with stress about self care and women used uneffected coping styles to cope with stres about baby care and social life. It?s recommended that in postpartum period, information and consultancy about self-care, baby care and social life must be given to women by nurses.Key words: Postpartum period, stress, stress coping styles, nurse, self care, baby care, social life.
