Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTS OF SELENIUM, VİTAMİNE E, AND LEVAMISOLE ON 1,2 DIMETHYLHYDRAZINE INDUCED COLORECTAL CANCER IN RATS This study aimed to investigate the effects of selenium, vitamin E, and levamisole on the occurrence and development of carcinoma in rats which were administered 1,2 dimethylhydrazine to develop colorectal carcinoma. 140 Wistar Albino female rats which weighed 150-200 gram were used in this study. The rats were separated into seven groups one of which was control group and the other six groups were experimental groups: there were 20 rats in each group. The rats in the experimental groups received drugs for 20 weeks and observed for 28 weeks. At the end of 28th week, sample taken from all suspected lesions of the sacrificed rats for examined with respect to the colorectal cancer. The incidence of the colorectal tumor was found to be lower in the rats which were given selenium, selenium and levamisole together than the rats which were given only 1,2 dimethylhydrazine (p<0.05). In addition, the incidence of malign colorectal tumor was lower in the rats which received vitamin E and selenium (p<0.05). On the other hand, no difference was observed in the rats which were administered levamisole, levamisole and vitamin E together in relation to the incidence of colorectal cancer (p>0.05). Selenium and vitamin E that we used in our study can be said to reduce the incidence of colorectal tumor in the rats which were injected through the administration of the 1,2 dimethylhydrazine, however, levamisole can be said to have no effect. Key Words: 1,2 Dimethylhydrazine, Selenium, Vitamin E, Levamisole, Colorectal cancer.
