Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of 12 weeks of recreational physical activity program to the development of their physical capacity and their families' depression level of educable mentally handicapped children between the age of 13-18 . In the study, a 12-week recreational physical activity program was prepared and were conducted with 16 educable mental disability children residing in Canakkale identified as the application groups. In the study; pre-test and post-test values were also obtained in order to obtain data of the physical fitness test score of disabled individuals and the level of depression of the families. For the purpose of defining the health-related physical fitness levels of the educable mentally disabled young people, Brockport Physical Fitness Test, developed by Joseph P. Winnick and Francis X. Short (1999); and "Beck Depression Inventory", developed by Becker (1978) and its adaptations made into Turkish by Hisli (1988), for the behavioral signs of depression of parents of the children were applied. The obtained data were evaluated by SPSS.20.00 program; and percentage, frequencies, paired t-test and chi-square tests were used. As a result of studies it was found that there were significant differences on body weight, body composition, and in muscular-skeletal function.
