Abstract (EN)

It is intended to examine the physical and symbolical transformation of the most important component in the Ottoman Religious Architecture `mosque? , during the crossing process from the 17th century to 19th century. In Ottoman geography , the urban transformation and the symbolical importance of mosque , as the directing component in the urban space and the main characteristic of the places where muslim citizens live , will be studied in the light of these transformations.In the first chapter , the state of the Ottoman Architecture before the 17th century is revealed and the background developments that affects the main structure of the research between 17th and 19th century era is briefly explained.In the second chapter , the city İstanbul and the architecture is studied , in connection with the 17th , 18th and 19th century eras that provides the periodical frames of the research. The social , cultural and architectural appearance of the city İstanbul during this era is constitued.In the third chapter , a catalog of the mosques which are choosen for the research among the the ones built during the 17th , 18th and 19th centuries , is prepared. In the light of this catalog the choosen mosques that belong to each era is examined , according to the plan , facade , decoration and urban location properties. The last subtitle of this chapter indicates the transformation of the symbolical meaning of the mosques from 17th to 19th centuries.In the final chapter , the physical , urban and symbolical properties of the choosen mosques , during the crossing process from the 17th century to 19th century , are evaluated and the conclusions are revealed.Key Words : Mosque , 17th century , 19th century , Symbol , İstanbul , Transformation
