Abstract (EN)

Population Registers contain the records of the censuses that have been put into practice since 1831 in the Ottoman Empire and continue at regular intervals. While this source specifically contains the original information of the people living in the settlement to which they belong, it generally contains information about the demographic and socio-cultural structure of the Ottoman society. The main purpose of these sources is to determine the military population. It provides extremely rich information about both quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the registered population. In this thesis, the transcription and evaluation of the population register number 1716 belonging to the Şuhud Township were tried to be made. Each page of the book, which contains the records of Hijri 1253 (Gregorian 1837-1838), has been transcribed in tabular form and evaluated according to this information. In the evaluation part of the study, It has been tried to give information about the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the population of the neighborhood and village of Şuhud Township, which was one of the districts of Karahisar-ı Sahib Sanjak of Hüdavendigar Province in history. The social status, names and surnames, age characteristics, typological characteristics, occupations of the people registered in the book were tried to be examined with tables and graphics. It is thought that this study will contribute to the studies on the history of the region. Keywords:Karahisar-ı Sahib, Suhud, population registers, neighborhood, village.
