A part of the mathematical journals and articles of Ottoman in 19th century

Prof. Dr. Hasan ÜNALThe purpose of this study is to provide information about Mebahis-i İlmiye, which is the first Turkish Mathematics Journal started in 1867 and published every month for 2 years. Each volume of the journal consists of 12 numbers and the editor is Vidinli Tevfik Pasha. In terms of general characteristics, the journal covers a plenty of aspects of mathematics, including math questions that are asked in a number and the corresponding answers are wanted in the following numbers, mathematical papers, the subjects related to pure mathematics and financial mathematics (interest calculations and the calculations for the tax system) which are placed in the field of applied mathematics nowadays and some articles which are easy to comprehend to improve mathematical thinking and so industrialization. The journal is published in order to teach mathematical sciences, natural sciences and various techniques which are the most basic elements to enhance knowledge and capability for the development of the country. Some workings in this journal, written by Vidinli Hüseyin Tevfik Pasha, the editor-in-chief of Mebahis-i İlmiye, are investigated. These workings are comprised of Hesab-ı Müsenna which is a calculation technique with its original name Dual Arithmetics, Hesab el-Hataeyn that is now known as double wrong, the generalizations of the proof of El Kerhi? s the sum of the cubes of the integers to the fifth and seventh degree and a different approach to honeycombs. For the purpose of the journal, Vidinli Tevfik Pasha help the target group reach the level of making calculations on their own step by step which are necessary for them. Some of the articles of Vidinli Hüseyin Tevfik Pasha in the magazine are examined and the inadequacies regarding the history of mathematics and this area are overcomed on the basis of not only subjects but also contents.
