Daily life in İzmir between 1950-1960

In this research, it is aimed to analyze the developments of the daily life in the city of Izmir between the years 1950 - 1960 according to the effects of social, economical and political changes and its internal dynamics. During the research of the daily life, together with the written and oral memoirs of the living witnesses', the local press of the era, official data, archive documents, and the secondary sources about the subject are also used. In order to introduce the data of the subject of daily life of the people living in the city that covers every detail, the research is restricted to the city center. In the first part of the research about the daily life of the city of Izmir, administration, demographic structure, residential areas, city planning and construction works are discussed, and in the second part, infrastructural services such as; canalization, road, water, electricity and gas; urban facilities such as; transportation, traffic, means of mass communication, security and health are discussed. In the third part of the research, the effects of developments in domestic and foreign politics to the daily life, in the forth part; the economical life of the city in terms of basic economical areas, business life, the economical life of the city in terms of consuming and savings; in the fifth part; level of education, educational institutions, public education and cultural services together with the artistic facilities in the city such as; theatre, music and cinema. The sixth part consists of the sportive facilities of the city, the main sports clubs and common sports branches; the last part consists of family life, the place of women in the social life, social interdependence, religious life, special days, celebrations, the fashion and magazine agenda of the era, eating - drinking habits and the entertainment life. At the end of the research, it is figured our that there occurred a change in the daily life of Izmir after the World War II related to international politics, economics and social conditions, and that these changes accelerated related to the policy of the Democratic Party that was in the office during 1950 - 1960.
