The normalization of Sino-Japanese political relations in the period of 1972-1978

The Cold War Period provided a system of bipolarity. The international politics were shaped by the conflict of United States and Soviet Union who headed by different ideologies, politic and economic systems. Likewise everywhere, in The Asia-Pacific Region the politics were determined by the basic lines of that conflict and two important actors of the region, The People?s Republic of China and Japan were incorporated in two opposing alliance systems; PRC in The Soviet Bloc, Japan in The US Bloc.In 1971, US formed an alignment with PRC and after defection of PRC from Soviet side, the bipolarity system was turned into complexity and uncertainty in The Region. Even after Cold War, the politics of the region is still shaped by the legacy of The Cold War Period.This study aims to analyse the normalization period of Sino-Japanese political relations which were affected by this Cold War Era. It reviews Sino-Japanese relations in political and economic aspects from the end of World War II till the conclusion of Peace and Friendship Treaty in 1978. The international politics -Cold War politics- dictated the course of post-war Sino-Japanese relations. Whereas The Japanese tried to circumvent the political obstacles by insisting on ?seperation politics from economics? until normalization in 1972 with the helping of non-governmental actors and non-offical interactions in bilateral relations.
