Abstract (EN)
In this study, kinetics of alkylation reactions of 2-Methyl-l,3-indandione and 2-Ethyl-l,3-indandione with methyl iodide, ethyl iodide, n-propyl bromide and n-butyl bromide were investigated in the presence of sodium alkoxide. The reactions were carried out at constant temperature and the decreasing of sodium enolate concentrations were measured spectroscopically. It was observed that the rate of alkylation is decreased by the increasing chain of the alkyl groups. Although the reaction conditions were setup to Sn2 mechanisms, the activation energy values suggest that Sn2 mechanism and SnI mechanism is competing in those conditions.Key words Page number Advisor 405.02.01 Alkylation kinetics, 2-alkyl-l,3-indandiones.
