Subway station cell planning for 2nd generation and 3rd generation mobile communications systems

Mobile communications systems became important part of our daily life with developing technology. It?s important that this systems provide growing communication requirements with high quality and sufficient capacity. Second generation system GSM and third generation system UMTS (WCDMA) are used in our country for mobile communications. In second generation systems voice communication submitted without any problem but it?s not possible to go up to higher rates on data communication. Due to the nature of the system, limitations had big impact on developing of third generation mobile communications systems. Third generation systems provide high speed and performance data communication. In parallel to this situation, demand for multimedia communications increasing day by day. Hence, it is important to create sufficient and dominant coverage areas indoor at second and especially third generation systems in terms of system performance. Using indoor distributed antenna systems indoor and macro cell capacity and communication performance increased with covering users who generates high traffic. In this work, indoor cell planning have made using distributed antenna system for GSM at second generation and UMTS at third generation. System performance has been observed according to the results of the measurement taken from the site after completion of theoretical calculations. Also, theoretical and practical results were compared. The importance of indoor coverage analysed in different ways and the planning process explained particularly with used distributed antenna system structure.
