Abstract (EN)
In this study, the positive and negative effects of propaganda on the 20 st century western cinema, especially during its early development, and in the aftermath of World War II. We have analyzed developments at the time through a purely Turkish perspective. In our research on films, as in literature, we have considered whether they included propaganda components or not. In the study, the concept of propaganda has been handled in its historical context, the means by which it is used, and their features have been identified. It has been presented how the concept of propaganda made use of cinema. More than 190 films were selected according to their box office gross, award criteria, effects on society, and how they dealt with different political issues. The rules, types, and images of propaganda in these films have also been identified. Visual propaganda materials in the films reviewed have been evaluated in accordance with content and they have been supported with scenes from the films.
