Abstract (EN)
Studies of the discovery of the manipulation of financial information have emerged with the realization that companies do not have a normal distribution of estimates of profit disclosures. Over the past several years, more than one model has been introduced. The most successful model of manipulation from these models has been regression-based models. Independent auditing of publicly held companies is important for the efficient access of users. Investors are directing their investment preferences by accepting the reliability of the financial statements presented by the companies. For this reason, it is important that financial statement regulators present actual data on behalf of their companies in the markets. In this thesis, it is researched whether the financial information presented to the investor is manipulated by using publicly traded, traded and unadjusted financial statements in Turkey. CMB bulletins and independent auditing reports have been examined and companies that face penalties or sanctions related to the manipulation of financial information and companies operating in the same sector as these companies have been identified. Selected firms were included in the probit analysis under the Beneish (1999) model. The power of the model was tested using the coefficients generated for the 73 firms that were analyzed and the likelihood of estimating whether the control companies were manipulating by calculating the K-cluster analysis method was calculated. In terms of modeling the manipulation of financial information, financial statements of companies publicly traded in Istanbul, publicly traded and independent audited were handled. For this reason, this model may not be able to obtain accurate results if manipulation of financial information for publicly traded companies is estimated. Key words: Manipulation, probit, financial information, Beneish model, K-clustering analysis
