Abstract (EN)

It is important to know the daily global solar radiation coming surface unit in developing countries like Turkey. In this study, Eppley Black and White Pyranometer (Model 8-48) and Eppley Total Ultraviolet Radiometer (TUVR) instruments located on the roof of OKUMERLAB (Central Laboratory of Osmaniye Korkut Ata University: 37.04227 N; 36.22134 E, Osmaniye/Turkey) were used to measure solar global radiation and UV component of the solar radiation, respectively. The datareceived inminutes in terms of millivolts during one year period (May 2013 to April 2014) were recorded using a MS6D 16-channel data logger and then were converted to energy unit as hourly, daily and monthly in terms of W/m2 using a personal computer. Daily total global radiation on a horizontal surface was calculated to be 1662322.88 W/m2 and its UV component to be 64579.62 W/m2. Values of monthly average of daily global solar radiation and its UV component were measured to be 4755.43 W/m2 and 180.9 W/m2, respectively. It was also found that the average daily total radiation and the UV radiation were to be 396.29 W/m2 and 15.03W/m2, respectively. While the highest global solar radiation and its UV component were obtained in June to be 528.33W/m2 and 22.48 W/m2, the lowest values were obtained in December to be 201.23 and 7.99 W/m2. As a result, it can be say that Osmaniye city on the Mediterranean region of Turkey has a good solar energy potential.
