Ground forces logi̇sti̇cs management i̇n the 21st century: An evaluati̇on i̇n vi̇ew of Turkey

In 21st century, In order to have enough power to accomplish missions and to be ready for probable regional conflicts and war conditions; Armies must have personnel whom has high war power, catch upon technology that other powerful nations did, must have logistical support system that is necessary for motivation and must use modern tools, accessories and weapons. As in other world armies also in Turkish Army there has been made some researches to increase logistical support system. In this thesis the Vehicle Routing Problem which is a subject of logistical support has been handled. Because it is hard to examine whole army, a border battalion is handled for instance. One border battalion consists of three or four border companies. And one border company consists of patrol stations that vary between one and four. Patrol stations are supported logistically by battalion. In this thesis a border battalion is handled that has seven patrol stations. In this study, first it has been tried to find a solution to Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows which battalion faces against of supplying patrol stations, with developed saving method. For this, Vehicle Routing models applied currently in seven patrol stations of instance battalion has been examined, the data which is necessary for applying WinQsB method to the Vehicle Routing Problem has been gathered from seven different patrol stations and a new route is offered. At this perspective in the first part of this chapter, to extract distribution route the data gathered from seven patrol stations will be analyzed. In the second part current situation will be analyzed and in the third part by applying WinQsB method to vehicle route problem a new route will be offered. In the final part current distribution route and suggested route will be compared. Research consists of four chapters. In the first chapter; information has been given about term of logistic, logistic administration, basic terms about logistic and logistical events. In the second chapter of research information has been given about developing of logistic sector in world, developing in our country, competition vision and Turkish Army Logistic. In the third chapter; information has been given about the Vehicle Routing and Traveling Salesman Problems. In the fourth chapter by offering an alternative against to the Vehicle Routing Problem an evaluation has been made.
