Abstract (EN)
The Ottoman State carried out population studies since the first periods in order to recruit soldiers and identify taxpayers. In the period we call the classical age (1300-1600), there was almost no land left in the center and provinces to have been recorded. The counts stemming from the deterioration of the Grooming system at the beginning of 17th century were carried out in the form of idle counts. Although the first census in modern terms was seen in the period of Mahmud the Second, it could not be integrated in the census due to wars. Censuses throughout the country were carried out in 1831 by establishing "Ministries of Registry" in all sanjaks and by conducting Muslim and non-Muslim male censuses in the country. In this direction, censuses were made regularly and all studies were recorded in the books. The district of Şüregel, which constitutes our research, has hosted many civilizations throughout history. It came under the administrative control of Assyrians, Hittites, Urartians and Byzantine State. After the Irakeyn Expedition in 1534, the Şüregel castle came under Ottoman rule. Population studies were carried out in Şüregel as well as in all counties of the Ottoman State. After our evaluation by carrying out transcription of the Muslim population register of Şüregel district, we obtain information about the names, nicknames, physical characteristics, illnesses, professions and the neighborhood and village they belong to.
