Examining the changes in social studies program before and after February 28 process in the context of the relationship between education and politics

By this study, it is aimed to reveal how the turning point of 28th February in history of Turkish Republic has affected the education and what happened to social studies curriculum before and after the process of 28th February. Academic works such as thesis, essays, conference proceedings, parliament reports about the topic and the documents, curriculum of Ministry of Education were analysed. As a result of the analysis, you will not be able to The history of coups of the Republic of Turkey, the historical development of the Social Studies course in the world and in Turkey, the changes in the Social Studies Program of the 1985-1986 academic year, the development of February 28, which was prepared at the National Security Council meeting on February 28, 1997, and called a Post-Modern coup, were examined and evaluated after February 28. Associated with the year 1968 curriculum of social studies lesson, social studies lessons were taught as 'Social Studies' in Turkey. After the strike of 1980 in Republic of Turkey, the curriculum of social studies was reorganized in 1985 and National History, National Geography, Citizenship lessons were scheduled in 6th, 7th grade instead of social studies lesson. Therefore, this implementation ceased the development of social studies lesson. Subsequent to the Education Year of 1997-1998s, lessons (such as National History, National Geography and Citizenship) were removed in National Security Council Meeting on 28th February 1997 with the decision of 8 years compulsory education. Social studies lesson was begun to teach for 3 hours in a week in 6th, 7th grade again. Considering the process of social studies curriculum in Turkey, it is inevitable to be aware of effects of political landscape in education. In terms of relationship between politics and education and the changes of social studies curriculum on account of strikes in the history of Turkish Republic have been evaluated with this study.
