Determination of thermodynamic and surface properties of 4-[4-((S)-cytronellyloxy)benzoyloxy]benzoic acid liquid crystal by inverse gas chromatography

Abstract (EN)

In this study, firstly the retention behaviour of 4-[4-((S)-cytronellyloxy) benzoyloxy] benzoic acid (SBBA) for isomers n-butyl acetate, isobutyl acetate and tert-butyl acetate in the temperature range of 35-220 °C and in the temperature range of 35-190 °C n-butyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol and tert-butyl alcohol were determined by inverse gas chromatography. Selectivity of SBBA liquid crystal for isomers of acetates and alcohols were tested at the studied temperature. Secondly, by means of specific retention volumes; Flory-Huggins liquid crystal solvent interaction parameters , hard-core liquid crystal solvent interaction parameters , effective exchange energy parameters , partial molar heat of mixing at infinite dilution of the solvent , molar heat of vaporization of solvent , the partial molar heat of sorption of the solvent were calculated for tridecane, dodecane, undecane, decane, n-butyl acetate, isobutyl acetate, chloro benzene and ethyl benzene between 195 °C and 220 °C. Lastly, thermodynamic parameters of adsorption (free energy, enthalpy and entrophy), dispersive components of the surface energies and the acid and base constants between 35 °C and 60 °C for nonpolar solvents such as hexane, heptane, octane, nonane, decane and polar solvents such as tetrahydro furan, trichloro methane, dichloro methane, ethyl acetate, acetone were calculated. According to the calculated acid and base constants, it was found that the surface of 4-[4-((S)-cytronellyloxy)benzoyloxy]benzoic acid has asidic character.
