In social sciences class-6 the effect of academic success and course attitude of project-based learning of students

The objective of the present study is to determine possible effect of instruction of "Resources of our Country" subject in 6th grade social studies syllabus with project based learning model on academic success of the students and their attitudes towards the course. The research is an empirical study and pretest – posttest quasi-experimental design with control group was utilized. The study was conducted with 6th grade students attending Elazığ central Mezre middle school in 2013 – 2014 academic year spring semester. The study was conducted with test and control groups. While project based learning activities were implemented with the test group in the study, methods and techniques proposed by the existing curriculum were followed with the control group students. The study was conducted for six weeks including the time required to apply pre and posttests. Achievement test and attitude scale were used as data collection tools in the study. Data collected in the study were analyzed using SPSS 17.00 statistics software. Level of significance was accepted as .05 in data comparison. Analysis results demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the academic success and attitudes towards the course of the students in the test group, where project based learning model activities were implemented, and students in the control group, where the activities were conducted based on the methods proposed by the existing curriculum.
