Abstract (EN)

Since their creation, people have needed to make sense of their concrete or abstract experiences. Since one of the aims of the social studies course is to enable the individual to know his/her environment, it is relatively important in terms of responding to people's needs. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of using concept maps, mind maps and knowledge maps on academic achievement in the 7th grade social studies course "Active Citizenship" learning area. As a result of the literature review, it has been determined that a single technique is generally used in the studies and there are few studies on the "Active Citizenship" learning field. This study is important in the literature in terms of using 3 techniques and covering the learning area of "Active Citizenship". In the 2021-2022 academic year, 36 randomly selected students in a secondary school in Akyurt were included in the study on a threefold basis, 17 in the experimental group and 19 in the control group. While the mind map, concept map and knowledge map techniques were used with the experimental group, the student-centered narrative method in which the MEB curriculum was applied was used with the control group. Quantitative research method was used in the research. In the real experimental model with the pretest posttest control group, in which the pretest and posttest achievements of the students are compared, there are the experimental and control groups, which are considered equal in terms of variables in the study. The obtained results supported the effectiveness of the concept map, mind map and knowledge map method.
