The effect of teaching with EBA on the teaching linear equations in 8th grade

This research is aimed to examine the effect of the learning environment supported with Education Information Network (EBA) in the teaching of the "Linear Equation" subject in secondary school math lesson curriculum on academic success, academic self-regulation, and basic psychological needs. The research was carried out in the 2019-2020 school year in a public school in a city center in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. A semi-experimental research method was adopted in the research. It was created by a research group of randomly selected 44 students between two classes, one of them was the experimental group with 22 students and the other one was a control group with 22 students. While the lessons in the experimental group were carried out in an EBA-supported learning environment, the lessons in the control group were traditionally taught through teacher presentation. Achievement tests, academic self-regulation scales, and basic psychological needs scales were used as a data collection tool. The results obtained from quantitative data analysis show that there is a significant difference in favor of experimental group in academic success (t = -2,652; p = 0,011 < 0,05), academic self-regulation (t = 2,974; p = 0,005< 0,05) and basic psychological needs (t = 2,296; p = 0,027 < 0,05). In the analysis of data, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test with SPSS 20 program, independent samples t-test, related samples t-test, and covariance analysis were used. As a result of the research, in terms of academic success, academic self-regulation, and basic psychological needs, teaching supported with EBA should be sustained to be researched with studies that will be done in other learning areas in maths and the experiences of students about EBA use should be reviewed in productivity area. It should be taken into account that teachers should consider EBA holistically in their lectures.
