Abstract (EN)
Yemen is one of the countries that has suffered a lot of wars and conflicts throughout history, ancient and modern. The current war that is taking place these days since its outbreak in 2014 is evidence. Therefore, this thesis aims to shed light on the dilemma of the continuity and prolongation of wars. The study dealt with the 1962 and 2014 wars literature to identify the causes and motives that contributed to the perpetuation of conflicts, based on the perspective of conflict resolution theory, using the qualitative approach, and benefiting from history through the historical method. Data was collected from secondary sources that addressed the two wars. They were analyzed and interpreted to deduct the joint manifestations between them. The data analysis demonstrated that the overlapped and contradictory political relations, economic interests, and expansionist ambitions of the external actors involved in the military intervention directly (Saudi, UAE, and Iran) and indirectly (US, Britain...) that have seriously contributed to the wars' prolongation and hampered peace efforts. And the transformation of the Yemeni civil wars from internal conflict to regional and international combat. In addition, the direct military interventions in the two wars led to the perpetuation of warfare. Further, findings show that many peace settlements and agreements have not contributed to conflict resolution but exacerbated the wars. It is noteworthy that if all forms of foreign military intervention ceased, it probably takes part in conflict resolution and end the war.
