Abstract (EN)

THE DETERMINATION OF PSYCHO-SOCIAL PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY ADULTS IN FORMING THEIR IDENTITIES WHILE THEY ARE RECEIVING EDUCATION IN APPERENTICESHIP SCHOOLS ABSTRACT This research was prepared on labouring youths who had to work at such a young age because of social, cultural and economic reasons and it was investigated how they were affected by labour and labouring conditions. This research compromised 615 labouring youths (557 boys and 58 girls) who had educated at Adana Merkez Çiraklik Eğitim Merkezi (A.M.Ç.E.M). As data collection tools, questionnaires were taken into consideration. The data collected was then transformed into percentage and frequency distribution tables. The youths had an education level similar to their parents with 79% of the boys and 87.9 % of the girls being only elemantary school graduates. A majority of these youths had to work due to the poor economic conditions and to gain vocational skills-a profession which could provide them a better future. These youths mostly started working at the ages of llto 13 and had been working at the same place for the last two years. They were paid below the rninimum official wagen between.4Q0.000TL to 800.000.TL. although they even worked on Saturdays. In addition to earning a low wage they had to provide for their meal at the lunch-break. Youths were happy at A.M.Ç.E.M because they still wanted to go to high school in order to get a degree. Key Words: Youth, labour, health, sociology, economy. xn
