Abstract (EN)

In modern Turkish painting calligraphy has been used often as a composition element. Calligraphy is a traditional art which is based on lines and letters. Since calligraphy is based on lines, line?s plastic characteristics create a connection between lines and abstraction. This characteristic enabled European artists to use line as an element of abstraction as well as traditional Far East and Islamic art.Adnan Turani is an artist who uses lines as an element of abstraction in his art. Until his educational trip to Germany Turani studied on outlines. After his education in Germany his idea of abstract art changed. Since then he concentrated on line as a free sui generis element of art. Turani?s inclination to this way is an influence of the discussion about originality, nationality and localness that had been taking place for at least 30 years. Turani has been using traditional elements in his art but he has always been concentrated on lines. We believe that Turani?s choice is not a coincidence but it is an influence of modernity and concepts of modern art.
