Investigation of prevalance of foot diseases in sheep in Afyon region

Abstract (EN)

In this study sheep in Afyon region were investigated in terms of foot diseases. In the research a total of 10327 animals consisted of 9877 (95.65%) female and 450 (4.35%) male were examined. The study was carried out in two stages such as spring and autumn. Those examined 10327 animals 271 had foot lesions. It was observed that %66.04 of lesions were seen in spring and 33.94% in autumn. This shows that the prevalance of foot lesion in animals on pasture was lower than those animals kept in indoor. 61.99% of lesions were located in front feet and %38.01 in hind feet of all lesions. Hoof deformation was 53.13% whereas 15.86% was sinusitis and 31.01% was foot rot of all lesions. In conclusion in spring and autumn months of 2013 the prevalance of foot diseases in sheep was 2.62% in Afyon region. Key words: Foot diseases, Sheep, Prevalance, Afyon Region
