The evaluation of the nurses regarding the preoperative nursing and the preoperation of the patients to operations at surgical clinics in Afyon

SUMMARY The Evaluation Of The Nurses Regarding The Preoperative Nursing And The Preparation Of The Patients To Operations At Surgical Clinics in Afyon. Research is planned in a descriptive way to investigate the nurses' level of knowledge regarding patient care and the process of getting the patient ready for the operation during preoperative stage. The aim is to find out the shortage of knowledge and then giving way to in-service education programs which therefore will hopefully enhance the quality of patient care at surgery clinics. A total number of 78 voluntary nurses who are working surgery clinics within Afyon Kocatepe University - Ahmet Necdet Sezer Hospital, Social Insurances Association Hospital, Afyon State Hospital and Afyon Zübeyde Hanım Maternal and Pediatrics Hospital were involved in the survey. The questionnaire which was the only tool to collect data was applied by the researcher with the technique of interview. During the evaluation period of the collected data SPSS (Statistical Package of Science) program was used. The statistical analysis of the data consists of t-Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test and Mann Whitney U Test. The average score of the nurses was found out to be 77,6 %. The effect of the nurses' background on the scores they achieved was analyzed statistically and the evaluation results were shown in tables. Among the descriptive qualifications of the respondent nurses, their age, education, marital status, number of children, experience, attendance to in-service education programs are questioned. It was found out that 71,8 % of the nurses are below 30, 56,4 % are married, 48,7 % have children, 64,1 % have clinical experience, 39,7 % has BSc degree, 51,3 % have received in-service education from a nurse and 15,4 % have attended scientific organizations. Also, it was found that the nurses' qualifications regarding that they work at the university hospital, they are single, they have BSc degree, they receive in-service education program on their own field and their interest in participating scientific organizations increase their level of knowledge scores.In contrast, the nurses who scored less seemed to have children and their age and their experience were superior than the other group of nurses.
