Forming Afyonkarahisar city center noise pollution map and the effects of noise pollution on human health

Abstract (EN)
Noise is an important type of environmental pollution affecting people's hearing and perception negatively, causing psychological and physiological disorders, decreasing work performance, altering the characteristics of the environment by destroying its peace and quitness. By many scientific studies it is determined that noise has physiological effects on humans. These main effects are stress, increase on blood pressure, difference at heart beats and blood circulation and insomnia.This work was aimed to study local measurement of high level noisy places in the city of Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. Measurements have been done using 3 different methods around the noise center. The models have been validated against the noise data. Measured traffic noise levels have been compared with predictions using the new models and some existing ones. Measurements have been done in the morning and the evening and noise map has been produced by results of these data.As a result of this study, it has been found that the noise level caused by city traffic in Afyonkarahisar are at a level affecting human health and above the designated maximum value proposed by "Noise Control Regulation" and accordingly the disturbance level of the residents has also risen.
