Abstract (EN)

In this study, first a one dimensional (1D) 12-cylinder, HDDE, Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine, is designed and performance and emissions analyses are carried out. The engine performance curve is obtained. At the time inlet valve closure, pressure and temperature values obtained from 1D analysis are used as initial conditions for the Three Dimensional (3D) CFD analysis for a single cylinder. One dimensional and 3D results for average temperature and the pressure in the cylinder are compared. It is observed that they both give similar results. For 3D flow analysis, the refined mesh results for different cell sizes are compared. The effect of different turbulence and combustion models are investigated respectively. AVL Fire EseDiesel module is used as the 3D CFD flow analysis. Especially ECFM-3Z (Extended Coherent Flame Model-3 Zone) combustion model and k-?-f turbulence models are examined and the accuracy of the results are interpreted. Finally, the partial load and full load conditions and the effects of injection timing on combustion are investigated.
