Abstract (EN)

This study covered the patients who referred to Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic with pain complaints.It was aimed to evaluate the relationship between the personality characteristics and anxiety level of those patients and their pain perception.In this study, a survey that consists of 5 sections was used. The first part of the survey was consisted of demographic features and patient?s story; the second part was about the features of orofacial pain. In the third part (MDAS) Modificated Dental Anxiety Scale was used. The forth part was formed of VAS which was used for pain level determination. Finally the fifth part was consisted of SCL-90(Symptom checklist-90) in which characteristics of the patients were evaluated. The results obtained from the survey were transformed to frequency and percentages by chi-square (?2) test.As a result, a significant relationship was observed between the demographic features such as age and sex, dental anxiety level, negative dentist experiences and characteristics of the patient and their pain perception.
