Abstract (EN)

In this study, the surface roughness, tool flank wear, the exit burr heights and the dimensional accuracies of samples were experimentally investigated when drilling AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel. Three different drills, namely HSS, TiN covered HSS and K20 carbides were used during the trials with 90?, 118? and130? point angles at constant feed rates and spindle speed conditions. Additionally, the microhardness values of samples were also measured and the tool wears were studied by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The Taguchi?s orthogonal arrays were used for experimentations. The each collected data was fixed at suitable columns and the data analysis was revealed by using Minitab R 15 package programme. The main effects of factors on responses were plotted by graphically and the optimal machining conditions were determined.In the first chapter of this study, the subject was introduced and the place and importance of the study was pointed according to relevant literature. In the second chapter, a detailed knowledge about stainless steels was given. In the third chapter, the drilling process and basic features of process were described. In the fourth chapter, the surface roughness was detailed. At the fifth chapter, the principles of Taguchi design of experiment method were mentioned while the experimental procedures were given in the sixth chapter. In the seventh chapter, the experimental results were given and discussed through the open literature. In the eighty and final chapter the general results and recommendations were given.Keywords: AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel, Drilling parameters, Taguchi method.
