Abstract (EN)

The widespread mechanization brought about by the industrial revolution has initiated unplanned migration movements from rural to urban areas. These migration movements have caused significant socio-economic problems in cities. The concept of smart city has emerged today in order to find solutions to the problems experienced in cities. Smart city, in general terms, describes the process of developing technology and using new digital tools that it brings with it in urban management. In this context, smart city includes the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the internet of things, which are widely used today, in the process of urban management. Integrating new technologies into urban life makes sustainable urban governance more successful. Sustainability, which rises on the basis of guaranteeing the rights of present and future generations and building livable areas, is effective in the development of collective decision and implementation processes based on the inclusion of different actors in the process and participation with the concept of smart city. The main purpose of this study conducted in this direction is to reveal the impact of smart cities on sustainable governance. In line with this purpose, the concepts of city and urbanization, smart city, components of smart city and smart city technologies are explained in the study. In the continuation of the study, sustainable governance and its dimensions are presented in detail. In the last part of the study, the effects of smart cities and smart city components on sustainable governance are examined.
