Abstract (EN)
The widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) represents a significant step in the global transition towards environmentally friendly transportation solutions. However, the rapid increase in EV usage has revealed critical challenges, particularly regarding their impact on electrical networks. These networks, which form the backbone of our energy infrastructure, are under unprecedented strain due to the substantial surge in power demand caused by EV charging. This additional load may lead to voltage instability, power quality issues, and localized outages. To address these challenges, this study examines the strategic placement of capacitors as a method to mitigate the impact of EVs on low-voltage (LV) systems. Capacitors, with their ability to store and release electrical energy, show promise in enhancing grid stability and resilience. Despite their potential, the integration of capacitors into smart grids to tackle the specific challenges posed by EVs remains an evolving field that requires further investigation. This dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of improving power quality in LV networks through the deployment of capacitors. While emphasizing that capacitor systems within smart grids are still developing and not yet fully refined for large-scale implementation, our study aims to contribute to the continuous advancement of this technology. By integrating empirical research, experimental validation, and a thorough review of the current state of capacitor technology, we seek to provide actionable insights that support effective voltage control in managing EV-induced issues in low-voltage networks. The interaction between EVs, low-voltage networks, and capacitor technology presents a complex but strictly electrical engineering-related issue. This study aims to highlight this critical problem and pave the way for a more resilient and environmentally sustainable energy future. Keywords: EVs, LV systems, Capacitor systems, Smart grids
