Transcription and evaluation of the population book no. 2776 of Tavusker sanjak of Çildir province

The Ottoman Archives of the State Archives is one of the leading institutions providing archival materials for research on Ottoman history. One of the millions of documents in the Ottoman archives is the population registers. In 1826, with the abolition of the Janissary Corps, it was decided to conduct a census to determine the population eligible for military service throughout the country in order to establish a new army. Another purpose of this census was to determine the population capable of paying taxes. In this framework, the census, which started in 1831 throughout the country, was completed in some places at a later period. The census in Çıldır Province, which included Tavusker Sanjak, the subject of this study, was completed in 1835. Based on the information obtained from the main source of the study, Çıldır Province Tavusker Sanjak Population Ledger numbered 2776, the number of the towns, the names of the people living in the towns, their physical characteristics, professional information, and the titles they used were evaluated. The study started from the introduction and consists of the first chapter, the second chapter and the conclusion. In the introduction, the method and framework of the study are emphasised. In the first chapter, the population records in the book are evaluated in many ways. In this section, the population data of the villages of Tavusker Sanjak of Çıldır Province are presented by adhering to the ledger. In the second part, the transcription of the relevant ledger was made. In the conclusion part, a general evaluation was made in the light of the data obtained from the ledger.
