Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Rhinitis is an atopic disease defined as non infectious inflammation of the nasal membranes and is characterized by a symptom complex that consists of sneezing, nasal congestion, nasal itching, and rhinorrhea. It is very significant as it is very common and it effects the life quality and also it is associated with other atopic diseases. Human serum (PON1) is an antioxidant enzyme synthesized by the liver that has the activity of both arylesterase and paraoxonase, It is Ca dependent serum esterase .It is associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) that is believed to protect against the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) . The enzyme level of paraoxasane has been found significantly low in may chronic diseases. It is thought that the low enzyme levels might have been contributed to the etiology of this disorders and increased the oxidative stress in the body. We decided to investigate the role of paraoxasane in allergic rhinitis as it is a systemic disease in which cytokines play a major role by increasing the oxidative damage in the body. Methods: The study population is designed by patients who are between 2-16 years of age with only allergic rhinitis. None of the patients had any chronic disorders and also was free of asthma.Control group is consisted of 23 healthy individuals between 2-16 years of age Results: Serum PON1 levels were found significantly low in the allergic rhinitis patient population. P value was determined as 0.009 and it is found that in patients in whom the enzyme levels were less than 99 U/L, the possibility of diagnosing with allergic rhinitis is 9.45 times higher than normal population. Conclusion: The treatment modalities that increases the enzyme levels of paraoxanase levels in allergic rhinitis patients will not only decrease the damage of oxidative stress in the body but also will improve outcome the disease process clinically.
