Abstract (EN)
Deterence as one of the 20th century's most influential foreign policy tools became an important foreign policy strategy of countires by the development of nuclear weapons. Deterrence, before being passed to a possible action, is used as a tactic by the countries to stop or to discourage the opposite country. Deterrence, as the most effective foreign policy tool of the Cold War, prevented the interference of opposite two poles into a hot conflict and ensured that the stability is maintained. We can say that this stability is created by the fear of the terrifying dimensions of the damage which could happen in the case of using the nuclear weapons. In this study, the US deterrence policy is outlined and examined its deterrence policy applied against Iran. The aim of this study is to investigate the dynamics of the periodic threat of American and American deterrence policy, specifically addressing the issue with Iran, and is to handle the sanctions imposed on Iran. In this study, it is important to understand how the US, which became a super power after the Cold War, uses its deterrence policy against threat perceptions. This work started first to examine the deterrence as a concept and then the American deterrence policy is explored in three period as of "Cold War Time," "After the Cold War," and "after the September 11". To better understand the strategic position of parties, the position of Iran in the region and the world was examined and under the guidance of this information the dynamics shaping Iran's foreign policy were discussed. In this study, problematic issues between the US and Iran were Examined under the headings of "Nuclear, Oil and Terrorism". Problematic issues were discussed and analyzed in terms of both sides and the sanctions imposed against Iran. The subject limited as end of 2014 due to the fact that is current and has been constantly updating dated according to the recent events. In this work literature review has been made and primarily the relevant academic books are scrutinized and the recent ongoing has been examined by following Internet sources. The thesis that has been published concerning the issue and interviews with an Iranian Professor at UCLA, in the USA has been also utilized.
