Abstract (EN)

One of the most important objectives of the Social Studies lesson is to educate good citizens. When the characteristics that a good citizen should have today are examined, the characteristics of global citizenship emerge. Global citizens are expected to have the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are desired to be gained with the Social Studies lesson. The purpose of this research is to examine to what extent Anadolu University Social Studies Teaching Curriculum covers the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes required by global citizenship. In this study, case study-single case design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data were obtained via semi-structured interviews with 8 lecturers in the field of Social Studies Teaching at Anadolu University. In addition, Social Studies Teaching Under Graduate Program was analyzed by means of an evaluation form created by using the dimensions of global citizenship revealed by Oxfam (2006). Content analysis and descriptive analysis were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it has been concluded that Anadolu University Social Studies Curriculum covers the dimensions of global citizenship to a limited extent, the content of the courses and the learning outcomes as well as the number of courses are not sufficient for global citizenship education. As a result of the research, it has been suggested to increase the number of lessons within the scope of global citizenship and to give in-service trainings to lecturers on global citizenship.
