Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is calculating of core loss for an asymmetrically arranged permanentmagnet motor.In the research stage of this thesis, it is realized that the conventional approach to core lossprediction using the Fourier series of the space wave of air gap flux density is notapplicable for surface mounted permanent magnet brushless DC motors. Because of thisfact, an alternate approach based on the fundamental concept is used that eddy currentlosses are proportional to the square of the time rate of change of flux density. Expressionsare derived for predicting hysteresis and eddy current losses in the stator teeth and yoke.In this thesis, also the difference of the formulations of the core losses betweensymmetrically and asymmetrically arranged magnet motors have been handled. And, somefurther works which are related with the core loss minimization have been mentioned.
