DETERMINATION OF PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OFTHE ANKARA HAYMANA DEMIROZU MARBLES(M.Sc. Thesis)Mücahit Nasuh B L RGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTThis study aims at determining the physical and mechanical propertiesof the marbles of Ankara Haymana (Demirözü) region. In this context, the physical properties of the marble of the region are determined interms of bulk density, density, water absorption by weight, waterabsorption by volume, water absorption by weight in boiled water andcompactness ratio. As for the mechanical properties of the marbles, theexperiments for compressive strength, resistance to impact, flexuralstrength, tensile strength and absorption quantity are realized withinthe three kinds of condition such as stove dry, air dry and waterabsorption. The loss of pressure after water absorption and freezeexperiments is determined. Consequently, it is seen that the marble ofthe region has the properties for covering purposes in terms ofcompressive strength, loss of compressive strength after freeze, resistance to impact, porosity and water absorption values.Science code : 714.1.143Key Words : Marble, Physical Properties, Mechanical PropertiesPage Number : 84Adviser : Assist.
