Abstract (EN)

In this study, land use change in the Ankara metropolitan area as the capital of Turkey is examined with the help of remote sensing (RS) and geographical information systems (GIS). The boundaries of the study area are determined to include the residential areas and administrative borders of the city center with daily departures and arrivals by public transport lines and private vehicles. In this study, Landsat images taken in 1990, 2002 and 2016 were used. Images were classified by supervised classification method. The images related to the research years were compared and the changes in urban land use were revealed. As a result of the study, it was determined that urban land use increased from 33,130 hectares in 1990 to 47,510 hectares in 2002 and to cover 67,583 hectares in 2016.
