The breeding of high drog and essential oil yielding lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) lines in Ankara conditions

The aim of this study was todevelop lines, which could adapt to the Central Anatolia conditions and have highessential oil ratio and drog yield.The first harvest results were determined plant height (38.3-52.7 cm), plantdiameter (55.9-83.3 cm), fresh herb yield (186.7-361.7 g/plant), fresh leaf ratio(56.7-75.7 %), fresh leaf yield (121.7-237 g/plant), dry matter ratio in leaf (27.0-40.3%), drog leaf yield (40.3-85.6 g/plant), dry matter ratio in herb mass (27.8-46.5 %),drog herb yield (53.7-160.4 g/plant) and essential oil ratio (0.007-0.054 %). Thesecond harvest results were found plant height (11-30 cm), plant diameter (31.3-51.3cm), fresh herb yield (52.9-150.6 g/plant), fresh leaf ratio (62.3-95.3 %), fresh leafyield (34.4-122.1 g/plant), dry matter ratio in leaf (18.9-39.9 %), drog leaf yield(10.4-42.8 g/plant), dry matter ratio in herb mass (23.2-41.2 %), drog herb yield(12.9-53.7 g/plant) and essential oil ratio (0.025-0.198 %).Key words: Lemon balm, Melissa officinalis L., essential oil ratio, drog yield.II
