Abstract (EN)

Energy storage is of great importance in terms of obtaining energy from renewable energy sources and using this energy when needed. In this study, porous carbons that can be used as electrode material for ultracapacitors, which are one of the high performance energy storage systems, were produced and the effect of these produced porous carbons on the ultracapacitor performance was investigated. Biomass-based pistachio shells in waste state as the starting material were used in the production of porous carbon. The production of porous activated carbon was carried out by the simultaneous application of physical and chemical activation using CO2 gas and KOH chemical after the carbonization process of biomass. The porous carbons produced have been characterized by applying SEM, BET and XRD analysis techniques. CV, GCD and EIS analysis techniques were applied to porous carbon samples in order to obtain information about the ultracapacitor performance of porous carbons and to examine their usability in energy storage.
