Active carbon production with hydrothermal method of Antep nut washing plant wastes

Abstract (EN)

In this study, activated carbon production by hydrothermal method was realized by using PPW (Pistachio Plant Wastes) obtained from the peeling plants in Şanlıurfa-Birecik. For this purpose, the samples were firstly processed in hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) apparatus for different periods of time, then these samples were mixed in different Hydrochar / KOH ratios for activation. The mixture put in a steel crucible with a lid was placed in an ash furnace. The products taken from the furnace were kept in HCl solution for 1 hour and then washed with distilled water until pH = 6.5-7 and filtered. Methylene blue absorption, XRD, BET and FTIR analyzes were performed on the active carbon product remaining on the filter surface. In the methylene blue experiments, the extraction efficiency was calculated as 99.85% in the N20 coded sample which was activated for 30 minutes at 800 oC after setting Hydrochar / KOH = 1/1. As a result of methylene blue adsorption experiments, SEM and EDX analysis of the samples which obtained the most suitable results according to extraction yields were examined and it was seen that activated carbon was obtained in N1 coded sample. However, the A1 coded sample was not activated. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) was performed on FTAAC to determine crystallization or amorphous structure, and crystalline structures, as well as amorphous structures and graphite structures were observed in some of the samples subjected to long-term carbonization at high temperature. Carbonized products obtained by hydrothermal carbonization were subjected to surface area analysis by N2-BET method. Accordingly, the BET surface area of sample A27 was determined as 1.094.3 m² / g, while the BET surface area of sample N20 was determined as 1.035.7 m² / g.
