Abstract (EN)

In contemporary societies gaze has become a controlling element. The individual locates her/his place according to the other. This being the case in everyday life, the theatre also gets its share of the domination of gaze. The actor executes her/his performance as an image that is or will be applauded in front of an audience whose gaze is bounded with certain tastes. As a result of such an inevitable relation, it is thought that the actor will strive to maintain the level of applause that she/he has achieved. Yet, the actor's art is to bring the character to the stage every time she/he plays. When the above is the case, she/he may, for years, have to hold onto her/his sides by which she/he has satisfied the audience's gaze. The question dealt by the thesis is presented in this context. For the solution of the problem, firstly the character is posed as a material that the actor transforms into. Because the actor realizes her/his own prejudices during the said process of transformation. Choices aimed at satisfying the gaze are identified with such an awareness. Secondly, the most competent person to recognize the actor's sides that resist transformation and to intervene is the director. When the above mentioned pitfalls that await the actor are considered, the question of how the director-actor relation should be constitutes the purpose of the thesis. Keywords: Actor, Director, Character, Transformation, Gaze
