The reflections of the Art Nouveau movement on the arts of ceramics and glass

Although the intellectual, stylistic, technical effects of Art Nouveau Movement, which has a wide sphere of influence, on art disciplines such as architecture and art are known, its effects on the art of ceramics and glass are not quite well-known. In this study, the ceramics and glass artists who get influenced by the Art Nouveau Movement, the styles of these artists on their works, glass factories, private workshops and technical renovations are going to be researched. Thesis study consists of five parts where there are theoretical explanations created in accordance with the information obtained from resources such as books, articles, internet and personal practices. In the first part of the thesis; political, social and cultural structure which prepare the ground for scientific and technical developments in the Art Nouveau Movement period are explained chronologically. Then, examples of glass and ceramics materials, whose area of usage expand and thrive under the influence of the Movement, in daily use wares and other fields are given. The Movement of Art Nouveau, has created a lot of effects in many countries and art disciplines. The movement, which is considered to be started in England, has spread France and Belgium at first, then to many European countries and to America. In the third part of the thesis titled 'Countries Where The Reflections of The Art Nouveau Movement In The Art of Ceramics Are Seen', thirteen leading countries are analyzed in detail. As a result of the research, the examples of manufactures of factories and artists that play an effective role in the spreading of the movement are displayed. In the fourth part where personal practices are displayed, designs developed with the techniques frequently used in Art Nouveau Movement and their application phases are included. In the fifth part, based on the data obtained from the researches, interpretations related to the reflections of Art Nouveau Movement on the arts of ceramics and glass are given.
